Pongo's Lo Carb Diet
Pongo decided yesterday to go on a lo carb diet. Apparently no one told Pongo that just because you eat half a bag of lo carb grain does not mean you're going to lose weight and look better for summertime.
Oh yes friends, Pongo apparently broke free yesterday (busting the latch on his stall) and wreaked havoc at his little backyard home. As if I havent had QUITE ENOUGH drama over the past week with my critters! Rumor has it he trashed the barn, got into everything and ate the contents of a lone bag of LMF Lo Carb grain sitting outside of the feedroom instead of locked inside of the feedroom where it belonged.
Of course I called the vet, got the emergency service, got ahold of the vet on call and explained the predicament. As it turns out, of all the things Pongo could have overindulged on, this is the best concentrate he could have selected. The vet said that he should be just fine, it was too late to pump his stomach and if he wasnt currently in distress that we really didnt need to oil him either. My instructions were to feed him half of his normal rations, watch him closely, keep him moving, check for poop and expect a lot of gas, haha...if he looked colicky then it was time to call the vet, but otherwise if in 2 days he was still acting normal, then he was in the clear.
I spent an hour just sitting in his stall last night (which he thought was the most fun thing ever), then got up at 6am to check on him again, he was fine. I groomed him within an inch of his life (as he is shedding out giant clumps of white fluff right now) and put him back outside. I found a few pile of Dino-Poo and I am assuming all will be ok. He's acting totally normal. I will probably go check him again at lunch, then at dinner, then before bed. Never a dull moment...
It's 10am...do you know what your horse is eating? LOL...Love my life!

Oh my what a piggy! My old rescue guy has broken into the feed room a few times as well, and has eaten entire trash bins of grain before! They just want to keep you on your toes!
ReplyDeleteI mean, you just cant make this stuff up!!! He thankfully seems just fine...because of that I can laugh at the entire incident. He is such a clown, I would have KILLED to have a video camera to watch him 'explore' the barn with no one around :P
