Weekend Update and Latest Product Lust-Have
It's Monday, it's sunny, I survived last week...barely...We're back in an all too familiar routine of walking, icing, buting, wrapping. My little lady is once again out of her mind excitable (not in a good way). We are supposed to be tack walking 20 minutes a day for the next 30 days. It's been a little erratic though the past few days.
On Friday I was able to get on and do it no problem, although I only went for 15...I decided my RX was 15min tackwalking in the morning and 5 min handwalking in the evening for this month just to be conservative and just to make sure she's not standing around for 23 hour stretches at a time in her stall. I'm icing her and rewrapping her after each session out of her box.
Saturday, I got up extra early, gave her a little extra sedative and attempted to get a quick 15 minute walk in before the dressage show at my barn kicked into full gear. Well...we got 10 minutes in before something caught her eye (a lady in a big red jacket) and it was all I could do to voluntarily dismount. Alexis was right there and helped me lead my snorting, spinning, PASSAGING Grand Prix horse back to her house. You know, it's moments like that...where my 6 year old mare can passage as expressively as something Anky herself might drool over that I just shake my head...let's hope I can get her in the hands of a good dressage rider once she's all better...what'd ya say??
Sunday, I gave up...no nothing. Let's call it stall rest...the show was way too busy and she seemed too quiet and content in her stall. We just iced and buted AM and PM.
Last night I didnt sleep. The little voices in my head kept me up with all the what ifs. I watched the Olympic ice dancing, that is a weird "sport"...come on people...But I digress...At the end of the day though here is what I know...I know God, and I believe he is who he says he is. Ergo, I must believe what he says is true, IS true. And here is what he says about my situation...
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,[a] who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
So while it's easy to want to declare defeat on my situation, I choose to take ownership over a few things...I never saw it coming, the lameness, we never do, right? That's not 'the plan'...I did see that in taking on a second horse that I would be overextended financially and physically (time wise). I could have only made this work under IDEAL circumstances and well, we know we do not live in a world that caters to our ideals. I can also take ownership over what God says about my situation which is even though I got myself into this mess, he is working something good out of it. While I dont feel compelled to share the nitty gritty of what I have learned or what He and I are talking about these days, I am trying to change my attitude and royal pity party I've been throwing myself for the past 5 days. Yeah, money is now beyond tight with the latest vet bills, yeah I am exhausted going to the barn twice a day, yeah I am not sure what happens with the mare long term, yeah, I've bitten every single one of my nails down to the nubs, yeah, I've thought about letting her run wild on the hills of Mt. Diablo...freeeeeedom! yeah, I've cried a whole bunch over this because now that I know the outcome I am anxious to get to the part where I just own one horse and maybe life assumes some semblance of normalcy (at least as normal as a horse owners life can be!) and yeah I am still kind of in a bad mood over it all thank you very much :P
Tomorrow the farrier comes out to work on both kids...speaking of the other kid...he broke the fence separating him from his pasture buddies on the other side of the barn overnight...I think we shall rename him Houdini or perhaps David Blane since he is such a masterful escape artist! Fortunately, they all seem to be playing well with one another but apparently all expect to be fed in the same 12x12 stall which makes for a crowded dinner table. And for anyone worrying, he was just fine after his lo carb binge the other day...other than being very upset that his blanket wasnt one bit looser after all that diet food :)
Finally, in the midst of trudging through right now, I did find something that made me smile...and when Pongo is ready to show I think I just might pick this up for myself as a little treat for finally making it back in the ring again...Shopping always makes life better doesnt it? Want one? Click on the pic, it'll take you directly to Equi-Fashion where you can buy it (and it comes with that uber cute stock pin as well!)...
