Video Time!

As promised! The videos of my lesson on Irish! To refresh your memories....Irish is a 4 year old Irish Sporthorse. She is owned by a really wonderful woman at my barn who has several youngsters for sale. Since I have no pony to ride right now, she generously offered to let me ride Irish. I've taken two lessons with Alexis and done 3 rides on my own. She's a very fun, honest and sweet mare. She is definitely FOUR and has a lot of growing up to do but I think I am a great match for her seeing as she has many of the same training needs as Pongo and Puna. The clips are short, just showing her basic trot and canter. Hopefully I can jump her next week with Alexis and get footage of that for you all as well, the jumping is where she especially shines! Happy Weekend!

  1. She's very pretty and moves so well - you're lucky to have her to ride!

  2. What a leggy horse! She looks like a lot of fun, but pretty quiet for a greenie. I love Irish sport horses, all the ones I have met have had great temperaments.

  3. She is a leggy, narrow lady. She's 17 hands! Her movemnet is interesting she naturally has a pretty choppy trot, it takes A LOT of finesse and leg to get it to look fluid. Her canter is to diiiieee for though, quite naturally balanced and uphill. She is relatively quiet...she certainly has her exciting moments, however she is very sensible and the worst she's done with me is spook and scoot (last night she was really goofy and oversensitive the first 20 minutes or so before settling down). I think her hind end is too underdeveloped to do much else :P I do feel VERY fortunate, I hope that her owner and I can work out a solid plan for me to ride her a few days a week while we wait for Miss P to heal up :)

  5. Thanks girl! She's a pretty pony. I would have NEVER thought a 17 hand horse would be a match but she's narrow enough for me to manage like a dream.

  6. Ummm...she is adorable! She could be Gatsby's twin!

  7. I am so jealous! I am struggling to find an instructor in the area that I like and trust. Some I don't respect the way they ride- we have a lot of old time trainers out here that think the easiest way to get something out of a horse is to spur the crap out of their sides and yank on their mouth until their spirit is so broken that they do whatever you want.
I am reading all I can, going to clinics and DVR every horse program out there but there is always something that you can't get from a book/video/TV show and you need a real person that knows their stuff!
Irish is super cute! Looks like a lot of fun to work with!

  8. I feel really fortunate to have Alexis. He is AMAZING! He is a ridiculously talented rider and a great, clear, encouraging instructor. I agree it is really challenging to find someone good to train with! I will try to blog in detail about my lessons so you can learn from him too!
